Appomattox BioEnergy Fuel Ethanol Plant

Customer: First Reserve Corporation/Osage Bio Energy, LLC
Project Location:Hopewell, Virginia
The Challenge

Osage BioEnergy, already an ethanol distributor, wants to become a producer. They have selected a site and wish to construct a 55 million gallon per year production facility based principally on locally-grown barley.

The Solution

Harris Group developed a preliminary scope and feasibility-grade cost estimate (±20%) for the project, incorporating information from the ethanol process provider and site-specific details. Harris Group also provided preliminary design for the balance of plant (BOP) outside the scope of the ethanol process provider. Other services included help in development of a contracting strategy and documents, preparation of agreements for purchased utilities and by-product sales, and schedule management. Upon execution of the EPC contract, Harris Group will provide independent engineering and construction monitoring services for the project debt holder.

The Benefits

Harris Group provided a broad array of Owner’s Engineering services, and is working with project team members to assure that the project:

  • Includes a complete scope that meets the owner’s requirements
  • Meets or beats schedule and budget
  • Adheres to a high standard of quality both in design and construction
  • Meets all applicable laws and regulations
  • Meets bank financing requirements

With independent engineering services provided by the same firm as has already completed the pre-project activities, the independent engineer will be up to speed from Day One and contributing to a successful execution.
