Harris Group Inc. is a full-service engineering firm offering one of the nation’s leading renewable energy planning and design groups for our nationally know clients. We are seeking an exceptional, experienced Mechanical Engineer to work in our Portland, OR or Atlanta Georgia office. We are looking for a candidate with significant background in complex, large-scale industrial process engineering projects or projects of equivalent complexity.
The candidate filling this position will:
Research, plan, and design mechanical and electromechanical products and systems to meet the process requirements for complex bio-mass and other renewable energy projects often under rigorous client requirements.
Interpret client operations objectives, project scope, budget and schedule to:
1. Define, organize, execute, and coordinate mechanical engineering assignments.
2. Plan, organize, and supervise work of a staff of engineers, designers and administrative staff supporting those assignments. Serve as technical resource for staff, designers and office on complex design issues and advanced mechanical theories, concepts, principles, and processes.
3. Select and define scope of mechanical-based and related problems to guide investigations. Plan and develop solutions to those problems that often require novel concepts and approaches.
4. Interface with key client and project staff in formal, informal and project team meetings.
5. Research, design and specify equipment, controls and processes for mechanical, thermal, hydraulic, heat transfer and other manufacturing systems.
6. Oversee installation, testing and start-up of equipment and related systems. Develop test and evaluation approaches. Directly conduct tests and evaluations. Prepare performance reports.
7. Develop models of alternate processing methods to test feasibility or new applications of system components, and recommend implementation of procedures.
Strong candidates will demonstrate:
1. A high degree of independence and low requirements for consistent, direct and detailed supervision while handling multi-unit or multi-project assignments.
2. Frequent opportunities to act in behalf of or directly support Project Engineers.
3. Strong growth needs, a desire to maintain and contribute to leading edge applications, theories and principals in a team based environment.
4. Excellent written and oral communications skills.
Qualified candidates will possess:
• A BSME degree and minimum of 8 years experience in process industries projects that could include complex pulp and paper or bio-mass projects.
• Ability to apply engineering techniques commonly used in process industries, including piping engineering, pipe stress analysis, pump and fan calculations, sizing and specification of pumps, fans and equipment.
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD, CADWorx and Caesar II software (all three a plus).
• Ability to acquire PE registration within two years.
