Mechanical Engineer – General Facility Design, with Biotechnology Capability

Harris Group Inc. is seeking a MECHANICAL ENGINEER with 5 to 10 years of applicable experience to join our Seattle Washington based team. Candidate must have an understanding of engineering techniques commonly used in the process industries, including piping engineering, pipe stress analysis, pump and fan calculations, sizing and specification of tanks, equipment and pumps.
Specific areas of required design capability include:
· Design of HVAC and control systems for clean space applications, laboratories, general facilities, factories, and offices.
· Design of facility mechanical systems including utility supports, chilled water systems and controls, steam generation and distribution, HVAC equipment and duct systems, and similar mechanical systems. Ability to size pumps, fans and heat exchangers (perform heat transfer calculations).
· Ability to write sequence of operations for HVAC systems, perform cooling load calculations and pressure calculations for VAV and CAV systems.
· Experience with mechanical/process system commissioning.
· Demonstrated experience within an operating facility or on a construction site is a plus.
· Design of cGMP production facilities in the Biotechnology arena, including high purity gases, WFI, DI Water systems, CIP, and SIP is a plus.
Preferred qualifications:
· Familiarity with the design and operations of major biopharmaceutical units such as fermentation, cell culture, chromatography, and filtration systems
· Experience with commissioning and validation (IQ, OQ, PQ), cGMP requirements.
· Experience with utility operations and sequence of operations for typical biopharmaceutical production as well as familiarity with Process Flow Diagrams (PFD) and Piping and Instrument Diagrams (P&ID).
· Experience with design of general facility infrastructure as well as familiarity with Process Flow Diagrams (PFD) and Piping and Instrument Diagrams (P&ID).
· Experience with CSI/construction specifications, specifying fire protection systems, site utilities, building hydronics, State Energy Codes, UFC, NFPA, SMACNA, ASHRAE, IBC.
· Registered Professional Mechanical Engineer preferred. The ability to obtain license via comity or exam within short period will be considered.
· Software skills: AutoCAD latest version preferred, A working knowledge of Cadworx, Ceasar II, and PipeFlow is preferred.
This position requires a proven capability to successfully:
· Execute mechanical engineering projects within grassroots and operating facilities.
· Direct design teams in preparation of feasibility studies and capital costs estimates.
· Conceive and evolve project requirements between multiple customer stakeholders
· Develop project deliverables – drawings, specifications, reports, and design criteria.
· Manage budgets, scopes or work, and design teams.
· Coordinate mechanical activities with design team, vendors, contractors, and customers.
· Successful candidate must be well organized, self-motivated, possess excellent oral and written communication skills, and enjoy working in a team environment. The ability to work with good engineering judgment is critical.
The successful candidate will be filling a variety of engineering roles in support of customer operations for new and/or modifications of existing facilities, including acting as the owner’s engineer. The candidate will be expected to work for multiple customers in a capital projects design environment. The position is for a mid level mechanical engineer but candidates at higher or lower levels with appropriate experience will be considered. The candidate must have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in mechanical engineering.
