Independent Engineering for Biorefineries
The Challenge
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is providing financial assistance for design and construction of commercial- and demonstration-scale biorefineries. The DOE needs independent engineering analysis, oversight and reviews of the many projects selected and awarded financial assistance. The scope of this work is enormous yet there are few engineering firms capable of providing the broad scope of services required.
The Solution
Harris Group is teaming with another engineering firm to provide the following scope of services:
* Engineering review of proposed project designs
* Participation in stage-gate reviews of pilot or demonstration plant operations
* Reports to DOE Golden Field Office on progress leading to construction of the biorefineries
* Assistance to Golden Field Office on monitoring construction progress
* Engineering and operational risk assessments to Golden Field Office of the final project designs
* Financial analysis and due diligence for large pilot, pre-commercial, and commercial scale facilities during design, construction, startup and early operations
The Benefits
DOE has not traditionally managed industrial projects such as these biorefineries. Harris Group and its partner are providing the necessary know-how in biomass conversion process technology and industrial project execution, complementing DOE’s strengths in project management to ensure a successful program for the nation.
