Lithium-Ion Battery Pilot Plant
Group14 Technologies | Maltby, WA

Project Overview
Harris Group successfully completed concept development and detailed design for a pilot facility producing novel lithium-ion battery components. The project featured specialized requirements for handling high temperature furnace exhaust.
Furnace Exhaust System Optimization:
Our team conducted a comprehensive study to address thermal stress issues in the high-temperature (1620°F) furnace exhaust system at the Maltby demonstration facility, delivering:
Complete pipe stress modeling
Preliminary isometric drawings
Detailed pipe specifications

Key Engineering Solutions
Segregated exhaust streams to prevent chemical vapor deposition and system plugging
Redesigned piping layout to improve furnace maintenance access
Enhanced temperature control through strategic heat tracing and monitoring
Eliminated bypass dead legs that accumulated tar and hindered maintenance
Material upgrades from stainless steel to Inconel for improved durability
Valve replacements capable of withstanding air injection cleaning procedures

Outcomes
The engineering improvements were designed to increase system durability, reduced maintenance requirements, and enhanced operational efficiency of this cutting-edge battery technology demonstration facility.
