Food Waste Anaerobic Digestion Facility
Linden Renewable Energy | Linden, NJ

Project Overview
Harris Group served as the Owner’s Engineer for this advanced anaerobic digestion facility in Linden, NJ, supporting the development, construction, and commissioning of a facility that converts organic waste into pipeline-quality renewable natural gas and soil amendment. Our role included overseeing project design, ensuring regulatory compliance, and coordinating construction activities on behalf of the owner.

Project Highlights
Feedstock Handling: Receives source-separated organics, fats, oils, and grease via tanker unloading, with pretreatment and storage systems.
Anaerobic Digestion: Eight steel tanks (1.57 million gallons each) produce biogas, which is upgraded to pipeline quality through a multi-stage System, including biogas storage, hydrogen sulfide removal, and CO2 separation.
Effluent Treatment: Uses filtration, centrifugation, and Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) treatment to produce a commercial-grade soil amendment and meet sewer discharge standards.
Innovative Power Solution: Onsite electricity generation via fuel cells utilizing pipeline natural gas, reducing emissions and eliminating pollutants associated with traditional power sources.
Grid Connection: Provides a redundant 100% power supply connected to the grid for reliability.
