Bulk Fluids Storage for Coatings Production Facility
Mankiewicz Coatings | Charleston, SC

Project Overview
Harris Group delivered comprehensive multi-discipline design services for Mankiewicz Coatings’ Charleston facility. The project involved adding a bulk fluids storage and distribution system, including four underground 8,000-gallon tanks for solvents and two above-ground 8,000-gallon tanks for isocyanates, supporting the plant’s specialty coatings manufacturing. Services included civil, structural, mechanical, piping, electrical, instrumentation, controls, and construction administration.

Highlight
The scope encompassed building a solvent pump house, tank truck unloading stations with secondary containment, and pipe trenches. Mechanical systems included storage tanks, unloading and distribution piping, pumps, and support infrastructure for solvents, isocyanates, compressed air, and nitrogen. The integrated design ensured safe, efficient material handling and compliance with regulatory standards, utilizing seamless coordination of all engineering disciplines.
Outcomes
The project successfully enhanced the plant’s raw material handling capacity, enabling reliable storage and distribution of solvents and isocyanates. Harris Group’s integrated design approach minimized operational disruptions during construction and laid a strong foundation for safe, efficient plant expansion, meeting all safety, environmental, and manufacturing requirements.
