Concourse C Low-Voltage Power Center & Infrastructure Upgrades

Port of Seattle | SeaTac, WA

Project Overview

Harris Group delivered comprehensive electrical and controls design for the installation of a new low-voltage power center at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport's Concourse C. Due to limited existing capacity, a double-ended substation was implemented in a specially designed fire-rated electrical room with mechanical cooling and emergency systems.

The scope included architectural modifications, fire protection upgrades, and installation of a Port-standard Eaton power center with advanced controls and remote monitoring capabilities. Additionally, the project encompassed new medium-voltage feeders, metering systems, transformers, and distribution panels to support reliable power for future airport operations.

Key Highlights

New Power Center: Designed a Port-standard, double-ended 15kV vacuum circuit breaker-based substation with associated switchgear, transformers, and control systems, ensuring reliable power for the concourse.

Structural & Space Modifications: Supported architectural and structural modifications within the existing Concourse C electrical room, including wall extensions, slab lowering, and fire-rated enclosures to meet Port safety standards.

Mechanical & Fire Protection: Designed a dedicated HVAC system with a dry pipe nitrogen sprinkler for fire safety, along with support for existing fire protection modifications.

Electrical Infrastructure: Routed medium voltage feeders from existing vaults, upgraded distribution panels, and installed metering systems—including HMIs and switchboards—to ensure precise load management and SCADA integration.

Auxiliary Systems: Included new emergency egress routes, mechanical cooling, and fire suppression systems, along with detailed foundation and support designs.

Coordination & Permitting: Prepared all construction documents, structural calculations, and coordination models to meet code requirements and support seamless construction and commissioning.

This effort significantly enhanced Concourse C’s electrical capacity and infrastructure resilience, supporting future airport operations and expansion.
