Brazil Corn Ethanol

Project Overview

The client was considering investing in a project to construct the first corn ethanol plant in Brazil.  This project presented unique challenges due to the location.  Before making an investment, we reviewed the project execution plan and provided opinions of areas of risk for technical, commercial, execution, and regulatory aspects of the project to allow the financiers to appropriately evaluate the viability of the project.

We visited the site monthly during construction to report on status of the budget and schedule for the investors.

How We Did It

This first corn ethanol plant located in Brazil has a nameplate capacity of 140 million gallons per year of denatured fuel ethanol along with animal feed coproducts.  The plant also has a cogeneration facility producing electricity for sale to the utility grid using primarily eucalyptus wood chips as a feedstock.

Our client constructed the project on budget and schedule. The plant has operated successfully for several years.  Harris Group’s review and monitoring gave comfort to the investors that the project was proceeding as planned, and when areas of schedule or budget risk appeared, we assessed the potential impact and mitigation plans.
