LEED Silver Certified Langley Library Remodel
MSR Design | Langley, WA
Project Overview
Langley Library Achieves LEED Silver Certification
Sustainability was at the heart of the Langley Library Remodel. Harris Group partnered with MSR Design and Sno-Isle Libraries to transform an aging library into a high-performance community asset that would become the first Sno-Isle library to achieve LEED Silver certification.
Driving Building Performance
Our team designed new HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems that improved energy efficiency, enhanced occupant comfort, and supported the library’s long-term operational goals.
The Challenge
Turning Sustainability Goals into Measurable Results
Achieving LEED certification within an existing facility required more than replacing outdated equipment. The project demanded innovative solutions that could maximize efficiency while working within the constraints of the building’s existing infrastructure.
Designing Within Limitations
With only single-phase electrical service available, some high-efficiency HVAC options were off the table. The team needed to deliver a high-performance system that balanced sustainability, constructability, and cost.
Our Approach
Sustainability-First Engineering
Harris Group evaluated existing building systems and developed an integrated MEP strategy designed to support LEED certification from the ground up. Every major design decision was evaluated through the lens of energy performance and long-term environmental impact.
Smarter Building Systems
The final design incorporated high-efficiency split-system heat pumps, dedicated outdoor air systems with heat recovery, upgraded plumbing infrastructure, and coordinated electrical improvements to reduce energy consumption and improve indoor environmental quality.
Collaborative Delivery
Working closely with the architect, owner, and contractor throughout design and construction, Harris Group helped ensure sustainability goals remained a priority through project completion.
Results
LEED Silver Certification
The Langley Library Remodel achieved LEED Silver certification, demonstrating how strategic engineering can turn ambitious sustainability goals into tangible outcomes.
Reduced Environmental Impact
The new building systems improve energy performance, enhance ventilation, and support long-term operational efficiency, reducing the facility’s environmental footprint for years to come.
A Model for Sustainable Renovation
The project showcases Harris Group’s ability to bring sustainability
to life through thoughtful engineering, helping clients modernize existing facilities while advancing their environmental and community goals.
