Project Scope
- Provided detailed design services for an interlevel automated material handling system within an active semiconductor manufacturing facility.
- Supported the installation of the new system and the associated fab and subfab modifications.
- Delivered structural, architectural, mechanical, electrical, process, security, and BIM coordination services to develop a fully integrated design package.
The Challenge
Introducing a new automated material handling system into an existing semiconductor facility required overcoming significant structural and operational constraints. The project involved structural evaluation, along with associated reinforcement calculations and design, to safely prepare for a new floor penetration between the fab and subfab. Additional challenges included cleanroom and enclosure
modifications, CFD modeling to demonstrate proper air flow, and utility and system relocations.
Innovative Approach
Harris Group led the multidisciplinary engineering effort through concurrent design packages for utility demolition, relocation, and detailed design. We provided permitting support, quality control, design review coordination, and services during construction. Harris Group’s integrated approach helped streamline coordination across multiple technical disciplines, support long-lead procurement needs,
reduce conflicts with existing utilities and facility systems, and provide our client with a coordinated design package to support efficient installation within an active high-tech manufacturing environment.
